Title Research: Antebellum

1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The second opening sequence that I researched was "Antebellum." The sequence begins off by displaying titles for actors staring in this film. Then the titles for the follow are shown the casting director, music directors, costume designer, film editor, production designer, director of photography, producers, writers, and directors.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

This opening sequence first begins with a little girl running to the front of a large beautiful house, when her mother comes walking down the spiral stairs. Then follow a group of men with guns, showing the backyard area of this house where many slaves are at work. A close up shot of a women laying on a horse is then shown. She jumps off and the camera is pushed into the action of a man being beaten by soldiers and a women on her knees crying. This last scene specifically was the most prioritized in my opinion because the music became more intense at this scene.

3. What connotations do these images carry?

The images carry a connotation of scary and unknowing of a bigger picture. It makes the viewer want to watch more in order to understand what is happening and why it is happening. Learn why this man was got into trouble. Who the women on the horse who saw what was happening was.

4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

Establishing a sense of the thriller genre is also aided by the sound editing of the scene. Throughout, a melancholy, almost sorrowful score plays, lending an air of dread and uneasiness. The violent whipping of the slave is further emphasized by sound effects, heightening the tension and the feeling of urgency. Also the feeling of uncertainty, because the viewer is unaware of why this man is being beaten they want to know more about why.

5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The historical setting of the movie and the Confederacy's heritage are highlighted in the opening sequence. The part of the audience who are passionate about history, especially those who are curious about investigating the complex and frequently uncomfortable facets of American history, are likely to find this appealing. The opening scene generates the tension and suspense typical of the thriller sub genre. The sequence engages the audience in the narrative and makes them engaged in the results of the movie by keeping them on the edge of their seat and unsure of what will happen next.

6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.

The audience can see every detail of the scene thanks to the high angle, which also encapsulates the scene's intensity. The movie also employs a low angle, which allows viewers to view the scene's details from a different angle while still capturing all of the scene's elements. Both of these perspectives significantly affect the comprehension and involvement of the viewer, they both serve an important purpose. By bringing the audience's attention to the scene's finer details up close, the zoom movement effectively captures their attention. One of the most efficient methods is the use of ominous sounds, which excite the viewers because they are so thrilling and fast-paced.
