Critical Reflection

Image
My short film “The Watcher” is a drama-thriller that tells the story of two sisters who are watching a movie on what they think is a normal night like any other, however this night takes a dark turn. As the night progresses, the sisters start to see weird shadows in their window and get weird knocks at their front door. Then one of the sisters is taken, while the one left is searching for her, she herself also gets kidnapped.            In my film, the two sisters' story of what begins as a typical night and turns into a terrifying ordeal offers a moving look at female vulnerability and empowerment. The sisters' journey demonstrates the strength and resilience women possess even in precarious situations as they face danger and abduction. She knows she needs to protect herself, which is why she grabs a knife, she may have been scared but was willing to do what she needed to fight for herself. By actively planning and combating her captor, she dispels stereotypes by exh

Final Editing Day!

Image
I'm thrilled to announce that my editing is now finished. Along with the background music, I added the titles. Despite the lengthy journey to get here, it seems like the effort has been worthwhile. As I sat down at my computer this morning, I knew I had a ton of work ahead of me. I worked on the short film for weeks, perfecting and modifying every element until it was perfect. I did, however, feel a sense of pride when I watched the video again before making any final edits. When the audio and visuals merged organically, I realized I had created something genuinely exceptional. The sheer amount of work that goes into producing a film is hard to describe, particularly in the editing department. Every shot, sound effect, and transition in the film needs to be meticulously thought out and executed in order to tell a coherent and captivating story. When I started editing the short film, I had a general idea of how I wanted it to feel and look. However, as I watched the video more close

No Editing Today

Image
It's been hard for me to even consider editing because I've been drowning in schoolwork lately. Whenever I settle down to polish my writing, I'm met with an overwhelming pile of homework and textbooks that need to be done right now. I feel as though I'm caught in a never-ending cycle of readings, essays, and tests, with little time to breathe, much less write well. When you're trying to meet the demanding requirements of academia and juggling multiple deadlines, it can be difficult to maintain focus, attention to detail, and clarity of mind qualities that are necessary for editing. I have the impression that my brain is overloaded because it is continuously shifting between topics and attempting to take in an infinite amount of data. There just isn't any more space for the meticulous examination and improvement that good editing necessitates. It's annoying, to put it mildly. Although I am aware that my writing needs to be seriously revised, finding the time

Second day of editing!

Image
As I continue to edit, my excitement to see the final product grows. The idea that the video I've been gathering over the past few weeks will soon be put together into a finished work is astounding. I added all the transitions today to ensure a smooth workflow. I also added the music, which was just a standard piece of menacing music that grew more menacing over time. Given that my short film revolves around a kidnapping, I thought this best encapsulated its essence. Because of the music, the audience can tell right away that something horrible is going to happen. However, until it actually happens, they are unable to know for sure. Because of the exact element that this music creates for my viewers, I felt that it could keep them more engaged. I find that the suspense element can be quite captivating. All of this reminds me of how I chose my pitch idea: I wanted it to be interesting. Not something dull, but something that would entice my viewers to keep watching was what I was goi

First day of editing!

Image
I am incredibly eager to begin editing. The first day of editing began today, which was very exciting for me because it means I can now finally see how my final project will look. I'm using iMovie once more, just like I did with my previous AS level projects. It was my first time using it, so I was able to use it much more easily than for my music video, but now that I've used it, I have experience. One of the reasons this editing process has been easier than my previous iMovie experiences is that I had better knowledge of the program from my previous work. I was able to start working right away as a result of not having to spend a lot of time learning how to use the various tools. I already had all of my shots added to iMovie's "My Movie" section. In order to avoid having trouble finding them when I started the actual editing, I inserted them as soon as I finished filming. Today, I rearranged them according to their proper order and removed any extraneous clips.

Editing Pushed Back

Image
Unfortunately I am having to push my hoped editing days back. I was unable to get to editing today because I had lots of homework I needed to complete, I also had a family event that also took some of my time. It was unfortunate but it is not that big of a deal. I have been really busy with lots of school work. Exams are coming up which has me under a lot of stress. I have been having many mock exams that i’ve needed to study for. This is a reason that I have not had any time to edit. Upcoming I have many deadlines for study guides and test. It is crunch time right now because of all of my exams. All of my major exams are all within a month. Whether it's attending a lecture, finishing an assignment, or studying for an exam, there always seems to be something that needs to be done. I've been struggling to keep up with everything because of the continuous pressure to perform well. I'm still determined to perform well and pass my exams in spite of everything. I've been wor
