Title Research: The Invisible Man
1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
The final opening sequence that I researched was "The Invisible Man." The sequence begins off by displaying titles for actors staring in this film. Then the titles for the follow are shown the casting director, makeup and hair designer, vfx supervisor, like producer, music director, costume designer, editor, production designer, director of photography, executive producers, producers, screenwriters, and director
2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
This opening sequence first begins with a wave being pushed into a rock which displays a few titles. The camera then tilts to a house on the hill above this large body of water. Then we are switched to a completely black background with water like lettering of the different titles. This opening sequence was very different compared to any that I researched through this experience. Since the only image that was used in this opening sequence was the house at the top of the cliff, this has to be the one that was prioritized.
3. What connotations do these images carry?
The images carry a connotation of mystery. The house seems to be apart from any other people or homes this can also lead the viewers to believe something bad will happen and the person staying in that house will have no way to contact anyone. This image of the house does look very pretty, the house is large but this also makes it feel like it may be more isolated from any other people.
4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
The music in the opening sequence is tense and menacing, which gives the audience a feeling of unease and anticipation. The music is intended to frighten viewers and get them ready for the tense and terrifying story that will follow. The movie's opening shots are gloomy and shadowy, creating the impression of danger and mystery. Low lighting and dark, intense shadows evoke unease and hint at the appearance of the invisible man in the title. A secluded mansion on the shoreline serves as the setting for the opening sequence, which is typical of thriller films. The mansion's size, imposing nature, and mystique heighten the tense atmosphere.
5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The suspense of the only image being shown is of a house on a cliff that seems to be secluded is appealing to a person who enjoys thriller films. The idea of the viewer not knowing what is next may intrigue them, they were not given any clues what so ever.
6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.
Again because there were not many scenes shown in this opening sequence the only camera movement that was used was a tilt. From the water to the house above on the cliff. This can add suspense because the house looks very secluded and has the front yard of the ocean off a cliff.
