Genre Research: Horror

The third genre of film that I will be researching is the Horror genre. Horror can be a very fun genre to watch with friends or family. I personally cannot watch horror films alone because I am too scared. It is the goal of movies in the horror genre to frighten and surprise their viewers. Horror movies frequently deal with themes of death, fear, and the unidentified and frequently feature supernatural or unearthly elements, such as ghosts, monsters, or demons. Jump scares, strenuous visual impacts, and suspenseful soundtrack are some of the common methods used in horror films to build tension and suspense. Gore and violent scenes are frequently used in horror movies as shock and disgust tactics. Horror is a very fun genre and there are many different categories of it.

What elements of Horror do I enjoy?                                                                                                                                                          - I really enjoy costumes that are used in the horror genre. What makes horror interesting is how the outfits change from being clean to dirty, torn up, or even bloody. The outfits can have such a big impact on this type of film because they can induce fear if they are for example covered in blood. I also enjoy the use of sound in the horror genre. For example, instrumental music horror screeches and frightening music are also used. Personally I think all aspects of the horror genre are amazing. Though I would never watch these films alone.

What elements of Horror do I not enjoy?                                                                                                                                                  - Once again I dislike the use of dark lighting that is used in these movies full of suspense. Once more, I entirely comprehend its use in building suspense. However, I think there are some situations where it actually lessens my enjoyment of the show. In very dark movies, I feel like I can't see everything I need to. They use these lighting tactics to evoke more fear in their viewers which is the exact intentions of a horror film.
