Introduction Blog

Hi, my name is Jasmine Mendez I am in AICE Media Studies AS Level, and I am really excited to learn more in this class. I am a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High School. I have heard very good things about this class and was very excited when I joined, I love photography so I think this class will be a good way for me to learn more about it. I have interest in this class because understanding how movies and shows are filmed and edited is very interesting to me. I am very family oriented we are always together; my mom is Indian, and my dad is Mexican. I've been to Mexico many times, and I've been to Indian once. My cousin and I are very close we do everything together, going to the beach is something me and her enjoy tremendously. Especially during the summer, we would go almost every day sometimes even very early in the morning to see the sunrise. We sometimes even like to swim out to the reefs and look at all of the beautiful animals. I also have a sister and we are very close we used to do all of these things together, but she moved to Tallahassee about a year ago for school. Cats are also something I really love. They are beautiful animals and I feel I have a very good connection with them. Though I have never personally owned a cat, I have never had any pets. I will in the future own my own cat but for now I will continue feeding stray cats that live around my house. Even though I've never owned any pets I have always felt very connected with all animals. I love to sit outside with the cats that enjoy my company for multiple hours. Being connected with animals as well as nature around us is an amazing feeling. Nature is beautiful, I love to walk through nature parks and look at all of the beautiful plants and trees. Nature walks are calming and a gorgeous sight. I also love plants I have many in my house and even started growing my own from avocado seeds. Greenery leaves a very calm feeling therefore it is amazing to have in your home.

I learned more about how to create my own film by watching this video, "How to Make a Short Film."  Even though I had some prior experience making films, this video provided additional advice that will be useful to me as I continue to make short films.  In this video, a film specialist offers post-production as well as production advice.  I found two particularly noteworthy production tips: play with the audience's feelings and minds, and avoid it if you can't.  The advice to "don't do it if you can't pull it off" truly caught my attention.  The movie expert says that you shouldn't try to do something for the movie that you can't do perfectly. Incorporating unfinished content will only make your short film less accurate.  It will look less cool than it will if you add this awesome scene or feature to your movie, despite your belief that it will.  I will consider what I can and cannot accomplish with the resources I have when creating my story...

Genre Research: Drama

The second genre of film that I will be researching is drama. Drama has to be another one of my favorite genres of film because of that same aspect of suspense. A drama is a dramatic story about human struggle and feelings are included in the broad category of drama in film. Dramas frequently feature believable characters in normal circumstances while examining topics of connections, individuality, and personal development. The aim of the drama genre is to evoke empathy and thought-provoking perspectives from the audience by giving the viewer an understanding of feelings depth and relation with the characters. Dramas can be divided into a variety of sub genres, including historical drama, family drama, romantic drama, crime drama, and more. These motion pictures frequently have complicated characters and subtle plot lines, and they can be severe, heartwarming, or thought-provoking. Title Research: Don’t Worry Darling

1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?  The first opening sequence that I researched was "Don't Worry Darling." The sequence begins off by displaying titles for the directors, screen writers, story writers, producers, director of photography, production designer, editors, music composer and conductor, visual effects supervisor, music supervisor, costume designer, and cast directors. After these titles are shown a list with actors that are in the movie begins to be displayed.  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  This opening sequence contains one shot being prioritized throughout the entire sequence.
